Our Mission
To unite all genders through the common love for self-care, self-expression and self-love.
Hi. My name is Daryl.
I started my life in the beauty industry 10 years ago when I founded Nail Deck.
Since then, I've launched 2 other nail brands - Light Lacquer and Aquajellie.
While each of them serviced a different segment of the nail market, one thing remained the same - our focus was always on the female demographic.
Two Nude aims to change all that.
In 2016, I became a dad.
His name is Dean.
Dean would, over time, learn about my business in nails and that making colours was not just for fun; it was my work and my way of life.
Since then he's gone on to produce 2 Light Lacquer collections and 1 Aquajellie collection of his own. And he never shied away from adding some colour to his nails.
Until a few months ago.
It was a normal afternoon of me changing my current nails and applying a new set. He saw and exclaimed COOL and as always I asked him if he wanted to paint his nails with me.
He immediately said YES. But paused for a second before quietly saying no under his breath.
I asked him why? And he said he didn’t want his friends to laugh at him.
My heart broke that day.
I guess with age comes an awareness of societal norms. Of what boys and girls are supposed or not supposed to do.And then I reflected upon my own past words and actions.
Whenever Dean’s friends laughed at my painted nails claiming that only girls can wear nail polish, I would either shyly brush it aside or say that I was just testing out the colours for my work. I never said that it was because I liked it and that I thought it made me look good.
I guess I, too, have spent too many years conforming to societal norms.
I lamented to my wife.
“There’s no reason why nail polish should only be for women, right? How many more years do you think before it’d be socially acceptable for men to have painted nails? 20 years?”
Time waits for no man though and I didn’t want Dean to go through primary and secondary school being embarrassed with what his dad did for a living.
To not be able to answer questions like “what does your dad do for work” with pride.
And then there were two
His name is Kyle.
With two boys I knew I had to do something so that they would not be embarrassed with their dad's chosen profession. I just couldn't allow that. I had to take a stand.
And so here we are with Two Nude!
Two Nude aims to unite all genders through the common love for self-care, self-expression and self-love.
And while we have only launched with our classic line of nail polish for now, we will eventually expand into other beauty products for all people who believe that beauty has no gender.
Not just men. I want to emphasise that this is not a nail polish line ~ for men ~.
And I’m not saying all men should feel the need to have painted nails. But if they do, then I’m here for them.
On a professional level, I hope to build Two Nude up into a community, a rallying point, and dare I say, a revolution.
On a personal level though, I just want to build something that will change the world that my two sons will grow up in.
Call it my legacy; call it my gift; call it anything you want.
But just know this - the next time someone asks me about my painted nails, I’m going to own it with pride.
